The land was first settled in the late 1700s by George Flemming (whom the CDP is named after), an Irish immigrant who received a grant for 100,000 acres. George Fleming built the Hibernia Plantation; after his passing, the U.S. Navy converted the land into an auxiliary airfield that was eventually abandoned. Eventually, a developer bought the land and developed it into the lovely residential area it is today!
